In addition to ensuring that you have the right amount of Homeowners Insurance coverage for your home, there are a few things that you can do to help prevent some kinds of water damage in your home.  These three tips, from our partner Safeco Insurance, might help to protect your basement or bottom floor from incurring costly flooding damage.

  1. Test your sump pump at least once per year to make sure it’s working when you need it most!
If your pump doesn’t have an alternate power source, add a battery backup or upgrade to a
    pump with a water-powered backup.
  2. Clean your gutters and downspouts regularly to ensure water moves through them properly and drains away from your foundation.
  3. INSPECT your water heater annually for signs of corrosion or leaks. Aging water heaters can weaken over time, increasing their likelihood of rupturing.

Implementing these tips and ensuring that you have the right Homeowners coverage for your home can help to ensure that you do not experience costly water damage this spring.
